Copper Vessel Sink

Give your bathroom a stunning and modern look with a copper vessel sink vanity.

When it comes to decorating your bathroom, one of the most important elements to take in to consideration is the sink.  A luxurious or contemporary sink is often the first thing you notice when you are in a well styled bathroom.  This is often the case when you go to a popular restaurant; you will find all sorts of modern sink styles.  One of the most popular types of sinks is the copper vessel sink.  A copper vessel sink is a great choice, as it can be used to create both an old world or modern bathroom look.  The bronze color of a copper vessel sink is incredibly elegant and gives an unmatched glow to any bathroom.

Vessel sinks in general are characteristically detached from the rest of the sink, creating the look of a bowl sitting on top of your sink vanity counter.  The copper vessel sink is no exception.  The predominant difference between vessel sinks and a copper vessel sink lies in the composition.  When copper metal is exposed to air over time, the metal becomes oxidized and changes in color.  This effect is commonly known as rusting, and the copper can change in color to become darker bronze shades, brown or shades of red.  Unlike common rusting, this actually makes copper even more beautiful and gives it more color and vibrancy.  This is one reason that many people choose a copper vessel sink over other types of sinks.  Of course this effect may not be desirable to all, but you should know that there are steps you can take to prevent the rusting effect.

When purchasing a copper vessel sink, another common purchase is metal finishing to prevent the aforementioned effects of oxidized copper to occur.  While many people embrace this effect, a finish known as an “oxidizer” can be purchased to stop this phenomenon from occurring.  Oxidizers are corrosive in nature, meaning they will severely burn skin if not handled properly.  Because of this, you will want to be sure to keep all exposed skin cover and absolutely wear gloves if you choose to coat your copper vessel sink.  Oxidizers can be purchased at any hardware store and generally cost about $45 for a pint.

When it comes to finding the right vessel sink, you are most likely to get what you are looking for at any store with a home bathroom furnishing section.  Some of these stores include, but are not limited to, The Home Depot, Crate and Barrel, eFaucets, Lowe’s Home Improvement stores.  Wherever you choose to purchase your copper vessel sink, be sure to ask the employee about installation costs, as this is something you may have to deal with later on.

There are other types of vessel sinks, such as those made of porcelain, glass, or another type of metal.  Copper in general, tends to be a cheaper material and therefore you are more likely to find a better deal with a copper vessel sink.  A copper vessel sink can cost anywhere from about $90 to $600.  Of course you can find ones for more, but you can generally find what you are looking for that price range.
