Undermount Sinks

Undermount sinks are found in the kitchen and are built in to the countertop and usually require installation from professionals.

If you are redesigning your kitchen or bathroom, you may have come across the undermount sink.  Undermount sinks are a type of sink that hides underneath your countertops.  These are especially helpful for the kitchen or bathroom that needs to keep clean.  The standard overmount type of sink will have grout and spaces in between the countertop and sink basin that can catch water or food particles and eventually grow mold within those spaces.

Undermount sinks come in a variety of styles, sizes and even made of different materials.  If you are looking for an undermount for your kitchen, then you will most likely want a double basin sink with at least one opening for your garbage disposal.  A double basin sink for a kitchen can be rectangular and even or you can find a double basin that is round. Off-center, and even angled for those kitchen counters and sink locations that are not exactly “average”.  When it comes to undermount sinks for the bathroom, you will most likely have a single basin, but it does not end there.  An undermount for a bathroom can be round, oval, square, rectangular or even custom-shaped.  Though they are made from porcelain, they can also be found in stainless steel or even granite composite.

When purchasing undermount sinks a consumer will notice that they typically range anywhere from $50 to over $200.  The more elaborate material and size/shape of the undermount the more expensive it will most likely cost.  The average cost for a double basin undermount ranges from $250 to over $650 for stainless steel and porcelain will cost even more.  Always ensure that you have the proper measurements of the sink you will need for your undermount and what your countertop is already measured for prior to actually purchasing your sink.

Undermount sinks can be found both locally and online, though a consumer is urged to shop locally first.  That way you can see the sinks in person, know the measurements and especially understand the materials you are purchasing.  When shopping locally visit retailers such as ACE Hardware Superstore, The Home Depot, Lowes or even Sears.  If you are going to do your shopping online, visit retailer such as Direct Buy, Amazon, Overstock, EBay, Faucet Direct, Moen, Surplus Décor and Elkay.  Always factor in the cost of shipping when you purchase an item online.  Porcelain sink basins can be rather heavy; therefore they can cost a consumer a significant amount in shipping or even freight costs.

Undermount sinks are part of the new trend when it comes to bathroom and kitchens.  They are perfect for keeping your workspace and bathroom space cleanly, but also add a clean and sleek look to any countertop space.  Always ensure that you measure the space you are placing your undermount prior to actually purchasing it.  When installing yourself you will want to ensure that you have the right tools and installation equipment as part of your factored cost.
